Know Your Number
Carry an official GHIN Handicap Index, registered with the USGA through EagleSticks Golf Club.
A Handicap Index is golf’s great equalizer. It lets you play a fair game against anyone, track real progress, and enter the leagues and events that ask for an official number.

Every round counts.
Post your score after every round (here, on the road, 9 holes or 18) and your index updates the next day. No more “I’m about a 15.” You’ll know your number, and so will everyone you play with.
Why carry a GHIN Handicap Index?
Your index is more than a number for tournaments. It changes how every round feels.
Fair games with anyone
Your index converts into strokes on any course, from any tee, so a 25 and a 5 can tee it up together and both have a real chance to win.
Real proof of progress
Every posted score updates your record. Watch your index drop as your game improves: the most honest swing tracker there is.
Your ticket into events
Leagues, member-guests, club championships, charity outings and amateur tournaments often require an official Handicap Index. Carry one and you’re always eligible.
Recognized everywhere
The World Handicap System is used around the globe. Your GHIN index travels with you to any rated course you play.
Every round means more
A Tuesday-evening nine still counts toward something. Posting gives every round a purpose and makes the good ones count.
Play the right tees
Your Course Handicap shows how a course plays for you, so you can pick the right tees and set realistic goals.

| Tee | Rating / Slope | Course Hcp | Playing Hcp | Target Score |
|---|
Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par), per the World Handicap System. For 9 holes, half your Handicap Index is used with the 9-hole Course Rating, Slope and Par (35). Target score is par plus your Playing Handicap. Ratings from the USGA Course Rating database.
Estimate Your Handicap Index
Add rounds played at EagleSticks (up to your 20 most recent). We'll use the same math the USGA uses. Your rounds are saved only in this browser.
| Date | Tee | Holes | Score | Differential |
|---|
Score Differential = (113 ÷ Slope) × (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating). Your index averages the best differentials from your most recent 20 (best 8 of 20; fewer rounds use the USGA's adjusted table). 9-hole rounds are combined with your expected score for the other nine, which is why they need a current index. "Adjusted score" means no hole counts higher than net double bogey. This is an estimate for fun and planning; an official Handicap Index comes only through a GHIN-licensed club.

Handicap FAQ
What is a Handicap Index?
It’s a number from the USGA’s World Handicap System that measures your demonstrated ability. It’s based on the best 8 of your most recent 20 score differentials and converts into a Course Handicap for any course and set of tees.
Do I need to be an EagleSticks member?
No. Any golfer can register with the USGA through EagleSticks Golf Club. Club 30 members get the reduced $40 rate: just choose the Club 30 Member Rate at checkout.
I don’t have 20 rounds yet. Can I still get an index?
Yes. You’ll receive a Handicap Index once you’ve posted 54 holes, in any combination of 9- and 18-hole rounds.
Can I post scores from other courses?
Yes. Post every acceptable round you play at any rated course. That’s what keeps your index accurate.
Do 9-hole rounds count?
Yes. 9-hole scores are posted and combined with an expected score for the other nine to create an 18-hole Score Differential.
What’s an adjusted score?
For handicap purposes, the most you count on any hole is net double bogey: par, plus two, plus any strokes you receive on that hole. Until you have an index, the maximum is par plus five.
How often does my index update?
Daily. Post a score and your updated index appears the next day.
How long does it last?
Your GHIN handicap covers a full year and renews annually.
