Course Strategy

Short but Full of Temptation

This one’s short on the card, but full of temptation. From the tee, it looks drivable for the long hitters, but there’s danger left and right.

The safe play is a fairway wood or a hybrid down the middle, leaving a full wedge to a green that’s small and firm. It’s proof that good design doesn’t need distance to make you think.

The best scores come from restraint, not aggression.

Golf Shop Talk (FAQ)

Can I drive the green?

It is possible for long hitters, but the risk is extremely high. The green is small, guarded by bunkers, and slopes away. The reward rarely outweighs the penalty.

Where is the water?

There is a pond lurking that can catch errant drives. Staying centered is critical to avoid finding a watery grave on this short hole.

What is the smart play?

A fairway wood, hybrid, or even a long iron off the tee to the fat part of the fairway. This leaves you a full wedge into the green, which creates spin and control.

How does the slope affect the shot?

The steep downhill makes the hole play shorter than the yardage. Be careful not to fly the green, as recovery from over the back is very difficult.
